Lifting Our Voices in Song and Praise

At the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, sisters and worshippers have lifted their voices to the music of a beloved 1919 Steinway grand piano for the past 30 years. Whether a wedding or funeral, prayer vigil or Sunday Mass, the sound of the Steinway calls people in, ushering all into individual and communal worship and prayer.

Crafted during Steinway’s celebrated “Golden Era” and built from rare African mahogany, the piano itself is a piece of artistry. Supporting generations of worshippers, it offers a rich, resonant sound. Lovingly rebuilt in 1994, it has faithfully accompanied the Loretto community through moments of celebration, sorrow, awe and gratitude. Yet time, along with the demanding climate of northern Indiana, has taken its toll, and the piano is in need of a second restoration.

With deep gratitude and joy, we share that, thanks to the generosity of our donors, this treasured instrument will soon be fully restored by the end of 2026.

The Restoration Plan

• A full internal rebuild, including a new soundboard, strings, tuning pins, pin block and agraffes.
• Timeline: 6–9 months
• A loaner piano will be provided during the rebuild.
