25 years of consecrated life

Sister Stella Maris Kunihira, CSC, who currently serves as councilor for the Area of Africa and as a librarian at Holy Cross Lake View Senior Secondary School in Jinja, Uganda, will be honored on July 16, 2017, during a jubilee celebration in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto at Saint Mary’s, Notre Dame, Indiana, for her 25 years of consecrated life as a Sister of the Holy Cross.
Sister Stella served as an elementary school teacher for more than 12 years, sharing her gifts at a government school in Fort Portal, Uganda; at Wanyange Primary School and Saint Andrew’s Primary School in Jinja, Uganda; and at Moreau Primary School, Kyarusozi, Uganda. She later taught secondary education at Holy Cross Lake View Senior Secondary School in Jinja, where she served as director of temporarily professed sisters, and has ministered as a librarian for four years.
Sister Stella was born in Kiboha Burahya, Uganda. Before entering the Congregation, she worked as a certified teacher. She earned her teaching certifications at Kinyamasika Teachers’ College, Fort Portal, and was awarded her teaching diploma in primary education from National Teachers College, Kaliro, Uganda. In the United States, she pursued coursework at Holy Cross College, Notre Dame, Indiana, prior to earning her Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame. Sister Stella made her initial profession of vows on September 15, 1992, and her perpetual profession on August 22, 1998.
