25 years of consecrated life
Sister Shopna Cecilia Gomes, CSC, who currently serves as assistant to the director of the National Social Catechetical Training Centre in Jessore, Bangladesh, will be honored on July 16, 2017, during a jubilee celebration in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto at Saint Mary’s, Notre Dame, Indiana, for her 25 years of consecrated life as a Sister of the Holy Cross.
Sister Shopna served in parish ministry and as a parish animator in a women’s cooperative at Corpus Christi Parish in Jalchatra, Bangladesh. She taught for six years at Corpus Christi Primary School, also in Jalchatra, and for three years she served with the Holy Cross Students’ Hostel in Tejgaon, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Sister Shopna was born in Dharenda Village, Savar, Dhaka. She graduated from Tejgaon College, Dhaka, with a Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and a bachelor’s degree in communications. Sister Shopna made her initial profession of vows on May 29, 1992, and her perpetual profession on September 3, 1999.
