Sister Rita McQueeny, CSC

Sister Rita McQueeney, CSC, who currently serves in the ministry of prayer, will be honored on July 16, 2017, during a jubilee celebration in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto at Saint Mary’s, Notre Dame, Ind., for her 75 years of consecrated life as a Sister of the Holy Cross.

Sister Rita shared her gifts as an educator for 34 years, serving in primary and intermediate schools in Ohio, Virginia, California, Maryland and Washington, D.C., and at Saint Mary’s Campus School in Notre Dame, Ind. She served for 10 years at St. Thomas Apostle School, Washington, D.C., and for six years at St. Bernard’s School in Riverdale, Md. Sister Rita also held various roles in health care, working as a hospital chaplain, a receptionist and a patient advocate for Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Md., where she served for 20 years. For two years, Sister Rita also served in ministry with the rural poor in Leonardtown, Md.

Sister Rita was born in Washington, D.C. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dunbarton College in Washington, D.C., and a Master of Science from the University of Dayton, Ohio. Sister Rita made her initial profession of vows on February 2, 1942, and her perpetual profession on August 15, 1945.
