75 years of consecrated life

Sister M. Geralda (Lamping), CSC, who currently serves in the ministry of prayer, will be honored on July 16, 2017, during a jubilee celebration in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto at Saint Mary’s, Notre Dame, Ind., for her 75 years of consecrated life as a Sister of the Holy Cross.
Sister Geralda served in elementary education for nearly 40 years, working for 10 years with children with special needs. She held teaching positions with schools in Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana, including St. Vincent de Paul School and St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic School in Elkhart, Ind., and St. Joseph School and St. Patrick School, in South Bend, Ind. She also taught in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Sister Geralda went on to work for 13 years in parish ministry at St. Mary’s parish and Immaculate Conception parish in the Diocese of Peoria, Ill. She also ministered for 21 years in the Diocese of Gary, Ind., including six years at St. Peter School in LaPorte, Ind., and nine years as a pastoral presence at Our Lady of Holy Cross Care Center, in San Pierre, Ind.
Sister Geralda was born in Chicago, Ill. She graduated from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Ind., with a Bachelor of Science degree, and earned a Master of Arts from Cardinal Stritch College, Milwaukee, Wisc. Sister Geralda made her initial profession of vows on August 15, 1942, and her perpetual profession on August 15, 1945.
