Sister Bruno celebrating 75 years of consecrated life as a Sister of the Holy Cross.

Sister Bruno served as an elementary school teacher in Viginia and New York during her first nine years in Holy Cross. However, following a calling to serve in missions abroad, she left for Bangladesh. There, Sister Bruno continued her education ministry in Dhaka for two years, where she also taught English and cared for young children at an orphanage.

In 1966, Sister Bruno became the supervisor of 18 schools in Jalchatra, Bangladesh. Then, in the early 1970s she created at least 60 women’s cooperative groups over a span of 10 years. She provided the women with training in sewing, empowering them with a sense of autonomy and skills to earn an income.

Sister Bruno then served as candidate director at the Holy Cross formation house in Bangladesh, a role she held for 10 years. And for another decade, she taught at the National Social Catechetical Training Centre (NSCTC) in Jessore, Bangladesh. Since 2003, Sister Bruno has served as formator and directress of candidates at Holy Cross formation house, Shillong, India.

Sister Bruno earned her bachelor’s degree from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana, and her master’s of anthropology from Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.
