Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to become a Sister of the Holy Cross?

Generally it takes eight years to make one’s final vows.

What is the age limit for entrance into the Congregation?

The target ages are 20 to 35, but we consider each woman who expresses a desire to become a religious.

After 35 it may be difficult to adapt to a whole new lifestyle change. For those who do not feel they are called to live life as a religious, our Associate Program, “Companions of the Sisters of the Holy Cross,” is an option. This program is designed for persons who identify with our mission and spirituality, and who wish to commit themselves to deepening their own spirituality by offering service and journeying with us. For more information, contact Sister Mary Margaret Weber.

Must I have a college degree before I enter?

The requirement is two years of college or work experience.

Does the Congregation accept widows or divorced persons?

A woman must receive an annulment from her marriage in order to take public vows. Widows or those with annulments are eligible for entrance.

If I enter the Congregation may I stay in the geographical area around my family?

Holy Cross is an international Congregation and its members must be willing to go wherever they are needed.
