My
vocation in Holy Cross
by Sister Isabel Cristina Camacho Torres
God calls us in many different ways, and in great simplicity he invites
us to deepen our relationship with him. I can remember leaving my
catechetical class one day when a young woman invited me to visit the
Sisters of the Holy Cross and get to know them. Being with these sisters
gave me the chance to encounter a deep and inexhaustible well of
spirituality.
Sharing with the sisters was an opportunity to live a strong and
profound experience of God in my life. This encounter answered my desire
to seek God in a special way and placed me in the holy disposition of
total commitment to the service of God’s people in a kingdom of justice
and love.
On this path God becomes present in my life, and every action of the
day that before seemed useless and dead is now alive. I am generating new
life with and through God’s creative grace, like the Samaritan woman at
the well, who dropped everything to run through her village announcing to
all that Jesus is the fountain that gives water to slake the thirst of
all. This encounter of the Samaritan woman was a joyous one and my daily
encounter with Jesus, the fountain of life, disposes me to live in this
joy.
I believe in fraternal love and am a companion on the road of life with
my Holy Cross sisters, living together and announcing the love of Jesus as
it enriches us all.
I thank God for bringing me into contact with these religious women,
who permit me to find my way in my vocation as I grow in my spiritual
life. It is Jesus who has the wisdom to call us, to seduce us, to become
his disciples, trusting him and his project of love.
Sister Isabel resides in São Paulo, Brazil.
