Ministries in Uganda
Sisters of the Holy Cross sponsored ministries:
Holy Cross Family Centre Education Unit
Kirinda, Uganda
Historically, the education unit was a program for women directed toward self-sufficiency. With the advent of free primary education in Uganda, the need for this program declined. In 2008 the Moreau Nursery School in Kirinda was begun, and a primary unit was started in 2009. Sister Stella Maris Kunihira is now the headmistress of the Moreau Nursery and Primary School. Currently, there are 112 students enrolled from nursery and kindergarten through primary grade 3. Sister Lilian Briege Awino is director of the sewing project at the center.
Holy Cross Family Centre Health Unit
Kirinda, Uganda
A multifaceted health center recognized by the government of Uganda, the health unit provides outpatient, maternity and postnatal care for all who come to the center. In addition, it provides outreach services in the adjacent villages, including immunizations and AIDS counseling. Sister Daisy Kabuleeta is the health unit’s director.
