JusticeCraft: Models and Strategies for Justice Ministry in Faith-Based Communities

Ann Oestreich, IHM, has extensive experience working with religious congregations on a broad range of justice and peace topics. She was the Executive Director of the Center for Justice in Buffalo, an office that served six congregations of women religious in Western New York. She has been engaged in corporate social responsibility work for three decades, addressing militarism, labor, gender and environmental issues with major U.S. corporations. In her current position as Congregation Justice Coordinator for the Sisters of the Holy Cross, she works with an international committee to devise education and action strategies on climate change, nonviolent conflict resolution, and global economic issues.
 
A former teacher and school administrator, Ann holds degrees in Spanish, Foreign Language Instruction and Telecommunications Management. She also has a certificate in Social Justice and Urban Ministry from the University of Notre Dame.

Mary Turgi, CSC, as chair of the Sisters of the Holy Cross Congregation Justice Committee and Director of the Holy Cross International Justice Office, has over 14 years experience animating and organizing religious congregations' work for social justice. An experienced presenter on justice issues and public policy, Mary has also developed highly successful strategies for educating members of faith-based communities on complex topics and engaging them in action.

Mary has advanced degrees in mathematics and women’s studies and previously taught mathematics and justice education courses at the university/college level, served as Social Ministries Coordinator at Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN, and worked as Community Development Coordinator in Covington, KY.
