1999 Direction Statement
Holy
Cross Women Seeking Justice in the New Millennium
“This is
what I ask of you: to act justly, to love tenderly, and to walk humbly
with your God.”
Micah 6:8
We, freely vowed women of Holy Cross, desire and struggle
to live more deeply the Gospel call for justice and nonviolence in the
context of our global reality. We are a community of women living the vows
and ministering among very diverse peoples, religions and cultures. As we
enter a new millennium, the systemic injustices that produce alienation,
impoverishment, and domination, compel us to act.
We commit ourselves to pray, study, reflect and act to
reinterpret religious life and the vows in such a way as to direct,
empower and free us to walk the path of justice, to do what we must to
address violence, and to restore right relationships in our congregation,
church and society.
We seek:
-
a shared understanding of religious life and the vows
for our mission in the new millennium;
-
a shared understanding of the causes of violence and a
stance of nonviolence;
-
respect for difference and diversity as integral for
community wherever we are;
-
interconnectedness as God's design for all of
creation;
-
mutuality in our use of power in solidarity with all
working to create communities of justice and love.
