Human Rights — Maquiladoras
“Pequeños Obreros”
The video describes the situation of some children in Peru who have to
leave school and the pleasure of childhood behind and go to work to help
support their families. The lives of these children are chronicled in this
video. (Spanish version only 11 minutes)
“Something to Hide”
Today in the global economy, corporations hide their production facilities
behind locked factory gates, armed guards and 15-foot high fences topped
with razor wire. The companies refuse to release to consumers the names
and locations of the factories they use and the labor policies they
enforce. What are they trying to hide? This video poses this question and
shows how concerned consumers are demanding answers about the human rights
conditions and at what wages the products we purchase are made. (25
minutes)
“Zoned for Slavery: The Child Behind the Label”
The clothing factories in Latin America pit young third-world workers
against workers in the United States in a race to the bottom: Who will
work for the least amount of money and benefits? The conditions in the
maquiladoras and the exploited young workers are exposed, as is the
unrelenting drive for profits at any cost by the corporations. (23
minutes)
