This 3-hour program, produced by PBS, tells the story of the great
sweep of Islamic power and faith during its first 1000 years, from the
birth of the prophet Muhammed to the peak of the Ottoman Empire.
Historical re-enactments, Islamic art. artifacts and architecture are
combined with interviews of scholars around the world to recount the rise
and importance of early Islamic civilization. (Two tapes, 163 minutes)
"Living Islam:
What It Means To Be Muslim In Today’s World"
Living Islam is a six-tape series both about Islam as a living
idea and about how that idea is lived. It is a tour around the history,
the faith(s) and the culture of Islam. The focus is on what it means to be
Muslim in today’s world, living with the Great Tradition of a world
religion and the Little Tradition of local, regional, and village culture.

"Seeking Islam"
The April 2002 presentation given by Marianne Farina CSC is
contained on two videotapes. She speaks about the faith and practice of
Islam, its history and expansion, Islamic women’s rights, and democratic
initiatives within Muslim communities. She also speaks about current
social and political situations that are linked to Islam. (2 videos,
approx. 5 hours)
"The Message: The
Story of Islam"
This historical epic film chronicles the birth of the Islamic
faith and the story of the prophet Mohammed. Starring Anthony Quinn and
Irene Papas, it is beautifully done. The original 1976 film, which was six
years in the making. (220 minutes)
