Terrorism/War
"Iraq
for Sale"
This is the
story of what happens to everyday Americans when corporations go to war.
This video takes you inside the lives of soldiers, truck drivers, widows
and children who have been changed forever as a result of profiteering in
the reconstruction of Iraq. Iraq for Sale uncovers the connections between
private corporations making a killing in Iraq and the decision-makers who
allow them to do so. (75 minutes, 2006)
"No End in Sight: Iraq’s Descent into Chaos – The Inside
Story from the Ultimate Insiders" DVD
The first film of its kind to chronicle the reasons
behind Iraq's descent into guerilla war, warlord rule, criminality and
anarchy, NO END IN SIGHT is a jaw-dropping insider's tale of wholesale
incompetence, recklessness and venality. Based on over 200 hours of
footage, the film provides a candid retelling of the events following the
fall of Baghdad in 2003. NO END IN SIGHT examines the manner in which the
principal errors of US policy largely created the insurgency and chaos
that engulf Iraq today. (2007/ 102 minutes)
"Private" DVD
A Palestinian family living between an Arab village and an Israeli
settlement finds their house besieged by the Israeli army. Rather
than leave, the family stays confined to a few rooms, living as virtual
prisoners in their own home. From beginning to end, Private, an
Italian film shot in Calabria, is as tense and suspenseful as any
Hollywood thriller. Saverio Costanzo's gritty, urgent camera work gives
the Palestinian-Israeli conflict a realistic, human face as the family and
the soldiers co-exist uneasily, both sides questioning the point of their
actions. (2004/ 90 minutes/ Iron

“Rumsfeld's
War (Frontline 10/26/04)”
With the U.S. Army deployed
around the world, on constant alert in Afghanistan and taking casualties
every day in Iraq, some officers now say the army is on the verge of being
"broken." They charge that the army is overstretched,
demoralized and may be unable to fight where and when the nation desires. Frontline
and the Washington Post join forces for an in-depth assessment of
the state of the U.S. Army and the nation's military establishment. (90
minutes)
“Uncovered: The Whole
Truth about the Iraq war”
This film takes you behind the walls of government, as
CIA, Pentagon and foreign service experts speak out, many for the first
time, detailing the lies, misstatements and exaggerations that served as
the reasons to fight a "preemptive" war that wasn't necessary.
This documentary offers an in-depth look at the unsettling
distortion of intelligence and the "spin and hype" presented to
the American people, the Congress and the press. (56 minutes)
“Understanding America’s
Terrorism Crisis"
How did the U.S. come to be so hated, and what can be
done? This program features celebrated authors and scholars who examine
the terrorist crisis and attempt to answer these questions.
Gore Vidal critiques U.S. foreign policy throughout recent history
and how it has contributed to the present terrorist crisis.
Other discussions include the definition of terrorism, U.S. defense
system, U.S. global military presence and options to reduce the threat.
(106 minutes)
"The
War Tapes" DVD
In this powerfully human documentary,
three National Guardsmen, Specialist Michael Moriarty, Sgt. Steven
Pink and Sgt. Zack Bazzi, chronicle their day-to-day lives in the Iraq
war with miniDV cameras strapped to their Hummers and helmets. The
story, as told through the eyes of the soldiers, transcends mere
social commentary and digs deep in to the horror and empathy every
soldier faces. (2006/ 97 minutes/Iron
Weed Film Club)
“WE” DVD
This is a fast-paced 64 minute documentary that covers the world
politics of power, war, corporations, deception and exploitation. It
visualizes the words of Arundhati Roy, specifically her famous Come
September speech, where she spoke on such things as the war on terror,
corporate globalization, justice and the growing civil unrest. It's
witty, moving, alarming and quite a lesson in modern history. "We"
is almost in the style of a continuous music video. The music used sets
the pace and serves as wonderful background for the words of Ms. Roy and
images of humanity in the world we live all in today. "We" is
a completely free documentary, created and released anonymously on the
internet.
"West Bank Story" DVD
It's like West Side Story, except with hummus. Lots
of hummus. Ari Sandel's musical comedy looks at the lighter side of the
Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
