Heritage Tour

The congregation’s heritage tour, also known as Holy Cross Way, is located on the fifth floor of Bertrand Hall. Built during the Civil War, Bertrand Hall is one of the oldest buildings on campus. Visitors are welcome to tour Holy Cross Way from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Holy Cross Way comprises four distinct areas: Heritage Room, International Cultures Room, Moreau Room and Tribute Room. Come as often as your heart calls you, spending time in reverence and in the good company of our family of Holy Cross.

The family of Holy CrossHeritage Room

The Heritage Room is the largest exhibit space and contains artifacts, documents and many historic photographs. Portraits of Blessed Basil Anthony Moreau, founder of the Congregations of Holy Cross, and Mother Mary of the Seven Dolors hang on the north wall. On the east and south walls are portraits of the superiors general, which were painted for display during the centennial celebration in 1941. A timeline denoting significant Church and world events runs continuously under the description of each superior general’s term of office. Numbered panels tell the story of Holy Cross from Father Moreau to the present.

International Cultures Room

international artifacts

The Sisters of the Holy Cross have always responded to unmet needs. Today, Holy Cross sisters from diverse cultures and backgrounds bring health, education and advocacy services to assist and empower people in eight countries on four continents around the world. On display in the International Cultures room are a slide show and numerous artifacts representing the countries where our sisters serve — Bangladesh, Brazil, Ghana, India, Mexico, Peru, Uganda and the United States.

Moreau Room

The Moreau Room is designed to expand the visitor’s knowledge and experience of Blessed Basil Anthony Moreau, founder of the Congregations of Holy Cross. Relics and artifacts of Father Moreau are displayed, and posters and banners depict the life and ministry of this simple, holy man. In addition, there is a slide show of the events surrounding his beatification in Le Mans, France, in 2007.

Tribute Room

The newest heritage tour exhibit, the Tribute Room, was opened in 2011. Awards and tributes earned over the years by the congregation and by individual Holy Cross sisters occupy this space.
