Sisters honored by Utah AIDS Foundation
The Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross was honored by the Utah AIDS Foundation on March 29, 2011, as one of the state’s pioneers in HIV. At the forefront of HIV/AIDS care 25 years ago, the congregation was recognized as the first to admit and care for AIDS patients at its Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City. Sister Linda Bellemore, who developed a comprehensive care program for those with HIV/AIDS, accepted the honor in Salt Lake City on behalf of the congregation.
In this video, a courtesy of KSL-TV, Sisters Linda and Joan Marie Steadman recall how the sisters became involved in caring for HIV patients in the mid-1980s. Also see pioneers in HIV to read more about the award.
