Sister Elsbeth Mulvaney with a young friend

Sisters are engaged in ministries that focus on:

  • building communities of justice and love — by assisting in the formation and facilitation of right relationships between and among individuals and groups;
  • eradicating material poverty — by addressing the systemic causes and effects of poverty;
  • ending gender discrimination against women — by working to transform or to bring to an end those systems and structures which oppress women and to collaborate with others in the creation of just and inclusive systems and structures.

Numbering approximately 475, the sisters sponsor Holy Cross institutions and ministries, undertake educational outreach, and support Ministry With the Poor projects in eight countries on four continents around the world. Click on a country (in the box at the top left of this page) to learn more about the sisters’ sponsored ministries and projects there.

Maintained by the Sisters of the Holy Cross, the Ministry With the Poor/CSC Fund is a response to the sisters’ commitment to be in solidarity with the poor, the powerless and the marginalized in society, especially women and children. Ministry With the Poor/CSC Fund projects are sponsored by Holy Cross sisters working in direct service with the poor individually, through parishes and social service organizations, or in ministries sponsored by the congregation. They are funded by generous donors and the income from investments that are restricted for that use.

Participate in the sisters’ life and work now and in the future by supporting our ministries and other congregational needs. Learn how you can help.
